It’s never too late to start especially if you have some training already =]
But i’d say take it easy at first, you don’t want to hurt yourself. You may be told you aren’t doing things correctly or you need to change the way you do something so don’t get frustrated. It’s great exercise and really fun too!
i am 14 too. and let me tell you you are never to old. i have been dancing ballet for 10 years and i love it…when you get really good you can do pointe too. if you like it do it. but just fyi go somewhere where you are comfortable…i know that i don’t like going to places where you have to wear uniforms and crap. where i go you wear whatever. i am sure you will do great and good luck. have fun!!!!
Most ballet studios go by skill level. So, if u are just starting, u will be with younger kids, not by age. You should start with modern and then slowly get into ballet!
No…its not too late to start proper ballet lessons.
take me, for example…i’ve dance since i was three but when I was 11 I decided that I wanted to take things seriously and i wasn’t getting anywhere where I was so I looked on the internet and I found a world class dance centre which is only half an hour away in the car. So I started going there for hiphop classes £20 an hour for a private lessona nd when quite far but then I wanted to do a range of dancing in a cheaper way so I stayed with the same dance centre but joined on a satuday where yoo can join a class for £5 an hour…by this time I was just younger than 13…I now do latin, ballet and tap and I’m onto grade 3 ballet and I’m only 14…people say that my class is slightly rushed as I’ve dun so much in a short space of time but I’m top of my class and going onto pointe next year!!!can’t wait but now Im looking for a hiphop crew to join…..hope this helped x
Thats great that you want to start dancing!!!! Your not to old but you will have to work hard and challenge yourself to work harder and you need lots of motivation, but i think you could still be good. Good Luck!!!
It’s never too late to start! And since you have a dance background, you already have some experience under your belt. I’ve been doing ballet for 14 years now, and one thing to keep in mind when you start is the basics. You want good technique and pay attention to the little details. Like pointing through your ankle all the way to the ball of your toe as hard as you can, keeping a good turnout at the hip without opening it up too much, good posture, and try to be as graceful as possible. It’s the little things that make you a good dancer. Anyone can do a leap, a grand jete. But if you can make it look graceful and effortless, with beautiful pointed toes, lengthened arms, and straight legs, you’re a true dancer. So just make sure you stay focused on good technique. Good luck!
Hi first off I have been taking ballet for 11 years now and this is going to be my 3rd year on pointe.
It is never to late to take ballet but it is better to start when you were younger because that way you learned all of the basics.
Ballet is my favorite type of dance and it always will be. Ballet makes you feel pretty and makes you feel graceful. It is the perfect way to get in shape and have great turnout. Here are some tips:
If you dont get something at first go home and practice
Always ask questions
Maybe search online for ballet moves
Always have confidence you can do something
Its never to late.
I danced for about 2 years when i was about 6.
Then in 6th grade (i was 11) I started danicin at school.
at my school we have different classes and u have to choose one out of dance, art, gym, orchestra, band, chorus, and others. i chose dance cause i love to dance.
now im in 8th grade and still in dance and im gonna try out for dance team at school so u are never to old and its never to late to start so start now….u will have so much fun!
You should definitely try it. I used to dance ballet when I was nine, but I quit because people picked on me in my class. . Anyways. Just after I turned 14, I decided that I wanted to go back, It took a bit of persuading my mum, but in the end she agreed. Now I am back dancing again, never happier, and I don’t even mind that lots of people in my class are younger than me because, when I dance I feel free. You should watch the video on You-tube from Anaheim Ballet. It speaks volumes, and is an amazing motivation. You are never too old to dance.
Even though ballet itself might be new to you, it seems like you have a great deal of experience in other areas that would help you develop your ballet abilities. I say go for it. Fourteen is certainly not too young to start something new and you certainly have plenty of time to get really good. My friend just started dancing two years ago and this December she will be starring in her school’s Nutcracker production as Clara. In the meantime, my advice to you is to make sure that you are stretching on a daily basis to improve flexibility. If you already do yoga, that’s a great way to do it! Also, make sure that you are staying fit.
If you really want to start than start as soon as possible! The younger you are, the easier it is to pick things up because when you’re older you usually feel more embarrassed about it and you don’t try as hard. Trust me you’ll benefit so much more if you start now rather than when you’re thirty.
I would not say “its never too late.” why, you ask, well if you wanted to become a profeshanal ballet dancer one day then get that out of your head (not that your can’t dream about it but chances are pretty slim) but if you just want to do ballet for fun then GO FOR IT!! take classes have fun. and one little thing, people dont say take ballet when your yong because your really flexable its because ballet is so hard and chalenging the younger you start the better because you have so much to learn.
You should watch a video about the 5 positions so you’ll know the basics and no it’s never too late to start. Always point your toes and make sure you turn out. For good posture, **** in your stomach and squeeze your ****. Never look down and when you spin, spot. You’ll be fine. Here’s a website with ballet vocabulary
