Well pilates is great for the midsection and does a lot on your abs. Yoga is more for stretching and helps get rid of your stress. I would personally try pilates and cardio. Do about 40 min of cardio three times a week in order to loose weight.

cardio will get rid of the fat and either one of those will help tone. in my opinion… yoga is more posing and meditating where pilates is more stretching

Pilates and cardio would definitely be a good place to start!!! Lol, go onto Google and look up Turbo Jam. Don’t start that until you feel like you can handle a little bit more stress on your body though. In the mean time try sit ups, push ups, squats, leg lifting, jogging in place, ect. Bike ride or walk to get around if possible and watch your diet. All of these things will get you into better shape. As for the pilates and cardio and possible yoga you are looking into, find some studios in your community that offer classes where you can work towards the same common goal with other people! =)

Cardio is your biggest thing – cardio, eating right (as in the right food and right porportions), and drinking a ton of water. Cardio is what ultimately burns the fat. Pilates and/or yoga builds and tones the muscle. Without getting rid of the fat first, the muscles do not show through.

Either yoga or pilates is a good thing to do. I do pilates and even bought myself the book “Pilates for the Dressage Rider” (since I horseback ride a lot) and is a wonderful book! Pilates will make you think about different muscle groups and working them independantly while strengthening the core (big time!!).

I’m not too sure about yoga as I’ve never done it, but has almost the same basis but I think deals more with an inner peace type of thing.

Either way, both are great for conditioning the muscle groups, thinking about moving things independantly from one another, strengthening the core, and both focus on breathing (which is very important!).

You definately want to throw in cardio, no matter what you do. As for pilates vs. yoga, I personally prefer pilates. It tends to focus more on the core than anything else. I have had back problems for a long time, and it’s great for helping to minimize that. It also is good for getting a slimmer mid-section. You can do a mix of the two. A lot of gyms offer classes that are part of a memebership, and you can take as many as you want. Mix it up and go to both. Or you can buy DVDs of both. I also love kickboxing. It’s great cardio and strength combined, and it’s great for self defense. And if you’re having a bad day, it really helps to beat the heck out of a punching bag! You’ll also want to include a weight-training regimine. If you’re not building muscle, you won’t burn fat as efficiently. Check out this site for some great diet and exercise plans: (It’s totally free and they have support groups and everything, a great resource!)
    Good luck!

I think pilates and cardio will do your body good. Yoga can kinda be difficult if you’re not in decent shape. Start of with pilates, when you’re confident enough, go with yoga.

pilates will help you with weight loss and muscle toning, especially abs and ****. i’ve done both, and i love them both, and you get a really great work out with each. but if you are working on weight loss and muscles, then pilates with cardio is a great combination. there are some pilates workouts that incorporate some yoga (i’ve heard it referred to as yogalates), and it feels great. if you can, try to infuse some yoga into your exercise, you won’t regret. i’ve felt muscles i’ve never felt before after a good yoga class. it can be difficult since there is a lot of balance involved, but you’ll get better with each class.

    Yoga.

Many people mistake yoga as a relaxation exercise. In fact there are many types of yoga. Some yogas are incredibly difficult physically and require significant strength. Flow yoga “vinyasa” will get your heart rate up to cardio rate while building muscle and stamina.

The fittest woman I ever knew did flow yoga everyday. As for me, yoga does something no other exercise has ever done. It totally alleviates my lower back pain.

    Whichever you pick, have fun!
