I think at first you would like an instructor. It is so easy to not do the pose right when you are first starting off. I started at a class that was for beginners. I am sure there are some beginner dvds
Well, the first thing you need is a yoga mat. You can find them at Target.
Although a live yoga teacher is always the best option, I understand it is not always possible. So if you want a good beginners DVD, I would recommend this one:

I started with OM Yoga and loved it! It was easy to follow and provided a great base for future learning.
